Many people will be affected by acne at some point in their lives. The most common type of Acne is known as Acne Vulgaris.

Causes Of Acne . What causes Acne?

Acne is largely caused by hormonal imbalances, specifically an excess of androgen hormones. These hormones are most active during the teenage and young adult years. When combined with bacteria on the skin's surface and fatty acids produced by oil glands, acne can develop. There are several factors that can trigger or worsen acne, including fluctuating hormone levels around a woman's menstrual cycle, picking at acne sores, wearing certain types of clothing or headgear, stress , exposure to air pollution and certain weather conditions (particularly high humidity), using oily or greasy personal care products, working in an environment with grease, experiencing stress (which increases the hormone cortisol), eating oily and fried foods and taking certain medications. Genetics may also play a role in the development of acne.

Where does acne most commonly occur?

The most common spots where you might have acne are your face, forehead, chest, shoulders and upper back. Back acne is also called Bacne. There are other places too like , butt acne/butt pimple/Bum acne , body acne, pimple on hands, Pimple on scrotum, pimple on breast, pimple on anus, small bumps on nose , pimple near vagina etc. Oil glands are all over your body, but those are the places where there are the most. The best way to treat acne depends on how severe it is.

What are the different types of acne?

Acne can take several forms. The types in order of increasing severity are :

  • Blackheads (Open comedone): Open bumps on the skin that fill with excess oil and dead skin. They look as if dirt has deposited in the bump, but the dark spots are actually caused by an irregular light reflection off the clogged follicle.
  • Whiteheads (Closed Comedone) : Bumps that remain closed by oil and dead skin.
  • Papules: Small red or pink bumps that become inflamed.
  • Pustules: Pimples containing pus. They look like whiteheads surrounded by red rings. They can cause scarring if picked or scratched.
  • Nodules( Nodular Acne ) : Solid pimples that are deep in your skin. They are large and painful.
  • Cysts( Cystic Acne): Pus-filled pimples. These can cause scars.
  • Blind Acne: Acne that form under the skin which may erupt later and form visible blemish.

All of these forms of acne can affect your self-esteem and result in scars. It’s best to seek treatment from a board-certified dermatologist early so they can help determine the best treatment option(s) for you.
